College Football and our home for the next 5 weeks…

2012-03-29 Bryan Texas 058

We didn’t do too much on Saturday since it was the first Saturday of College Football!!! Our Texas A&M Aggies were to play in their inaugural Southeastern Conference Game and home opener against the University of Florida, the school I almost went to for my Master’s degree. There has been a lot of hype about whether the two former Big 12 teams, The Aggies and the Missouri Tigers, belong in the SEC.

Untitled-3Well both Mizzou and A&M were unranked yet lost their season openers to ranked teams.. And both held sizable leads in the game enough to scare Florida and Georgia a bit. I would say that in defeat they both proved they belong and I don’t see many teams looking forward to playing either of them. I would have loved to have been working at my old part-time statistician job in the press box at Kyle Field for the big SEC game but I have to admit it is the only thing I really miss from my former working life… Better luck next week Aggies!

imageSunday was moving day for us and a short 47 miles further south to Santa Fe Park in San Diego where we will stay for six nights. It is close to Highway 5 which provides a bit of highway noise but we are glad to be back on 50 amps (our 30 amp connection was poor at best at the Elks Lodge) and we have a pool, spa, fitness room, rec room and cable TV at our beck and call…. So Sunday swimming, lounging in the hot tub, ping pong playing and watching professional football were on the agenda for the most of the day. But not before we went over to an In n Out Burger for lunch…

imageFor those of you who haven’t been to this western chain the menu is very simple… about four choices of burgers. Fresh veggies on a toasted bun and good fries make it a good yet inexpensive meal. And let me tell you it has its quite the cult following as it is always crowded.

For our time here in the La Jolla we plan to explore the area and really enjoy our new found amenities…

  1. Now I'm sitting here drooling for an In 'N' Out, animal style, fries well-done. We don't have the chain here in Oregon so I don't get them too often. Sure enjoy 'em when I do.

  3. Plenty of great Italian restaurants, as well as beer. Head up to Temecula for wine. 32 breweries, including Stone in Escondido. Have one (or more) for me.

  4. Always wanted to try In and Out, they are starting to open locations here in TX so hopefully we won't have to wait to long ;)

  5. So I'm not quite making the connection. You are staying in this park for 6 nights. Are you staying in the San Diego area for 5 weeks but at a different spot?
