Before leaving rainy Biloxi we made one more casino run to the only casino in town that is exclusively smoke free. It was really refreshing to sit at a casino bar and enjoy a cold adult beverage without having to inhale the smoke of a bad cigar from a neighbor seated nearby. We didn’t get any free play at this casino but still managed to have a great time on not much money. Sharon even hit her first four of kind on video poker!
The next morning we left Martin Lake Resort before 9:00 am on Friday which is pretty early for us. We did so since we were planning to drive about 275 miles which is considerably longer than we normally drive in one day. We couldn’t really find anything that we wanted to explore for a few days any closer but when we found Chewacla State Park just outside of Auburn Alabama we knew we could have fun exploring this state park and Auburn University.
Most of the day on Friday was simply getting to Chewacla State Park but after we got all set up we still had a bit of daylight to run into the town of Auburn for some quick sightseeing. We figured that we would at least cruise through the university and see what we wanted to do the next day. After speaking with a security guy I discovered that there was some free parking near the athletic facilities so we found a spot and pulled in.
From there we took a stroll around the Auburn football stadium where they have statues of each of their Heisman Trophy winners. We also checked out their baseball and softball facilities. Like all SEC schools their facilities are top notch. They have a softball three game series with Ole Miss this weekend and if we have some time to kill we may even take in a game, But for the time being we decided to head back to the spacious camp site to grill some of the shrimp we bought while at Betty’s in Louisiana. All I can say was it was pretty darned good… I guarantee…
