Grub a Tour and a Glass of Wine or Craft Beer in Bryan-College Station, Texas…

It is fun for us to return to Bryan/College Station every year to visit our old favorites but also to explore what is new in town. Bryan and College Station is booming and offers much more than Texas A&M University for visitors to experience.

One great place we visited recently was a new eatery called Grub Burger Bar.  It was founded in College Station but now has franchise locations all over the place including the cities of Atlanta, Dallas and Tallahassee. We sauntered up to the bar during happy hour and what a happy hour it was! They have a decent assortment of craft beers on tap and they are only two bucks a pint at happy hour! We added to our craft beers some happy hour appetizers. We ordered the crawfish pistolettes and the Luau fries and of the two the Luau fries were a big hit between Sharon and I. We originally planned to have a burger and split it but after the appetizers we were plenty full.

We have also visited the two breweries in town the New Republic Brewing Company and the Blackwater Draw Brewing Co. We found the brews at Blackwater Draw more to our liking but the New Republic is a great place to sip on a Dammit Jim beer and listen to free live music on the weekends.

Another day we visited George Bush Presidential Library and Museum (the 41st president not his son W. Bush). The feature exhibit on the day we went was a tribute to the Texas Forest Service. Upon entering the museum visitors are given their own “phone-like” tool giving visitors the ability to listen to the voices of the president and the first lady as well as their children talk about various parts of the exhibit. Each exhibit displays a number and upon entering that number on the "phone" a narration begins. We found both the feature exhibit and the main part of the library a great place to visit on one of the many rainy days we have experienced during our stay here. After the tour the rain subsided so we enjoyed the outdoor area behind the library walking around the statues and the beautiful pond lined with colorful flowers.

Another relative newcomer to the downtown Bryan area (well at least new to us) is a place called Downtown Uncorked. Downtown Uncorked is a wine bar and a quaint spot in the downtown area that serves mostly wine but also has a decent assortment of craft beers. We went down to Uncorked on a Thursday night which happened to be 50% off select bottles of wine night so you can guess what we decided to drink while there… Don’t plan to eat a full meal there as they only serve snacks and some desserts so if you are still hungry there are some great restaurants in the downtown area. Some of our favorites are Casa Rodriguez, Papa Perez and Mr G’s for casual fare or for more elegant dining a must try is Madden’s.

We invite you to stop by our old hometown for a nice stay.  We know you will discover as we have what a fun place this is for a delicious meal, a tour, as well as a little glass of wine or craft beer to relax with after exploring Bryan and College Station, Texas.

We are leaving College Station this morning and moving a long way for us (291 miles) to Abbeville, La to visit Betty at Betty’s RV Park and to hopefully escape this persistent rain…

NOTE: If you plan on visiting this area you should really contact the Bryan College Station Visitor’s Bureau for visitor information. They can tell you about all the cool happenings and neat places to see or eat at in the area…

  1. Ms. Heyduke looks like a better choice to me.

How do you two stay so trim with all the tasting going on. We have to pace ourselves or we would be as big as the Goodyear blimp!
