Bonita Beach, Bonita Springs, Florida…

image

imageOne of our very favorite beaches to visit  whenever we are in Bonita Springs, Florida is Bonita Beach. Since we are still in the slow season it is possible to score some free parking at one of the Bonita Beach Access Roads #'s 2-9. Although we have noticed that the parking is bit more scarce than it was two years ago when we were last here. There is nearly always parking at the Bonita Beach Park but as I mentioned before the parking fee is $2 per hour and the county stickers are not good here!

imageThe beach itself is fairly narrow but the sand is mostly coral based and as a result it is quite white and bright. We have definitely benefited from having polarized sunglasses . The water at this beach is usually calm but it has been a bit choppy our first few visits to it. Another thing we love about this beach is the abundance of shells that are scattered all along the beachfront. As we walk down the beach it is also fun to admire the big homes on the beach and to daydream about what it would be like to live in one of them.

imageCrowds are fairly sparse except real close to the entrances. With just a short walk of 100 yards or so there is much less crowded pieces of beach front. I haven’t tried my luck surf fishing at Bonita Beach yet but we have gotten into the water and the water is very warm this time of year due to the abnormally high temperatures. Water temperatures have been around 80 degrees with air temperatures around 92 degrees  which makes it quite pleasant to just sit out in the calm surf.

imagePeople watching is always fun  at the beach as well and there is definitely an assortment of folks to observe here. Everything from retirees, honeymooners, families and foreigners speaking quite a variety of different languages. I’m sure some enjoy watching us… especially me since I usually wear a Coolibar long sleeved SPF 50 sun protection shirt (men’s and women’s available) and a goofy sun hat to protect my face and neck from unnecessary sun risk. A few years ago I had a stage zero (thank goodness) melanoma removed so I try to reduce sun exposure as much as I can and still enjoy the outdoors with all it has to offer. I love these lightweight dermatologist approved shirts…

Another thing we bought was a Sport-Brella that we simply love and wonder how we ever lived without it. We are often asked where we got it and if we like it. We bought ours at a store during the end of season for a discount but they can be purchased on Amazon as well (link provided). As I said we love ours and anytime we plan to spend more than few hours on the beach the Sport-Brella comes out. It is very easy to set up and provides some greatly needed shade on those hot sunny days (SPF 125).

I am sure ours will get a lot of use during our three month stay here…

  1. The beach and water are lovely. We love the early season with uncrowded beaches. That is a cool umbrella!! A very good idea especially with the heat Florida is experiencing right now.

  4. WOW 90's, that's worse than here. Me too with the long sleeve shirt, big hat and I even wear a very light weight white pair of long pants if I'm not in the water. If I could keep the sun off of every part of my body I sure would.Same reason as yours. Those beaches look lovely.
