After one more hike along the Animas River in Durango it was time for us to leave the Fairgrounds Campground since the County Fair will begins soon. We packed up the RV, hitched up the car and hit the road for our next destination in Delores Colorado.
We pulled into Circle C RV Park & Campground, Inc.where we scored a very nice full hook-up pull through site. We had lots of space with a panorama of mountain views.. Also, being at over 6900 feet means we will no longer experience hot temperatures in late July. We were happy the park had full hookups and a nice, inexpensive laundry on premises where we caught up with life’s chores.
We have never been in this part of the country this time of year and as a result we find ourselves amidst their monsoonal period. What this means is thunderstorms with torrential rains will pop up just about anytime during the day. We have been surrounded by thunderstorms and one evening a thunderbolt struck VERY close to us causing Sharon to leap from the couch in surprise! It actually fried our TV booster/switch box. Fortunately I was able to find a replacement at Amazon and it will be delivered to our next location. I was also extremely glad we have a ROKU TV for streaming since Sharon can become very cranky without her TV.
Not too far away from our park is Mesa Verde National Park, a park we have visited on several occasions. We have done most of the hikes but found one we hadn’t taken.called Spruce Canyon Trail which is one of the least walked trails. This hike appealed to us because we would see less people. As it turned out we only saw one other person on the entire trail.
Though the trail was only 3.1 miles in length it was a loop walk down and back up an elevation of 675 feet. It had been a while since either of us had done any elevation hiking and we could tell as we were huffing and puffing while making our way up out of the canyon.
Once finished with this nice little hike we continued on to view some of the archeological gems found in this park. One can never tire of seeing such marvels constructed by our ancestors of the past. It is tough to imagine what life must have been like back in their time.
While in Delores, Colorado we found out friends of ours from Texas were in Durango Colorado so we picked a spot in between to meet up for dinner. I would be remiss not to plug Chavolo's Mexican Restaurant in Mancos Colorado. It was great service as well as delicious food!. Our friends Patty and Chuck also raved about their food. If passing through the area give it a try since we are pretty sure you will like it. Despite the unpredictable weather, we are finding ways to have lots of summer fun between rain events.
NOTE: We are currently Monticello, Utah until August 6th…
LOL! Fran is also a 'visual' person and likes her TV/videos. Mesa Verde is an awesome remains of past occupation of the area.
ReplyDeleteYes, and we certainly don't want them to be cranky!
