Test Post Using Open Live Writer… It works!!!

They just released a new version of Open Live Writer that supports Google Blogger! It is 5.2 MB in size so make sure you get the newest version.
Download it at http://www.openlivewriter.org.
When setting up your blog account you must select the ‘Google Blogger’ option not ‘Other’ like before. When you do ti will launch a browser to authenticate to your google page and osk for permissions to use your blog.
The list below are know issues from the Open Live Writer pages:
Known issues:
  • You need to remove your old Google Blogger accounts from Open Live Writer first. After removing them, click the 'Add blog account...' button in Open Live Writer to set up your Google Blogger accounts. When setting up your new blog account, make sure to choose the ‘Google Blogger’ option on the first page. Don’t choose ‘Other’.
  • Scheduling a published post may be a few hours off.
  • Categories are no longer supported in the latest Blogger API v3.
  • Support for authors, tags and comment policies is not enabled yet.
  • Attempting to login to Google Blogger with 0 blogs will show an error message. Please create a blog on http://www.blogger.com first before using Open Live Writer.
  • After logging into Google Blogger in your browser, you may need to manually close the webpage and switch back to Open Live Writer.
If this posts works I guess I will be back in the blogging business…

  4. I tried it. I was able to compose a blog, add pictures and customize it a lot. However, when I went to post the blog, I got a "403 error." So I'm back to square one.

    1. I got the 403 errors only when I tried to edit an existing blog or draft... Did you start fresh and still get the 403 errors?

    2. Yep - I too am getting the 403 errors when I embed pictures so it appears as if my blogging days are still a ways ahead... until they fix it again...

  7. The only other bug I have encountered is the post time seems to be current time plus four hours for some reason

  8. Thanks for all this detail John although I'm confused about the password thing. We need to change the password we used to log into open live writer? I think I'll wait until you and Al try the picture thing. Sure will be glad when all this is over. I did get it downloaded and started working on a post but think I'll just use blogger for another day or two since it is so hard to move things from Live Writer to Blogger. Thanks again!

  9. Apparently going brain dead here, but the remove option isn't active when I try to remove my old account. Any suggestions as to what my problem is. The only options are add, edit, or view, with remove not active.

    1. You had to set up a one-time account in Google to use Live Writer after it broke back in March. That one-time password account needs to be revoked. A new one needs to be set up and then you edit the blogger acct as per this link
