We always have a lot of fun at Betty’s RV Park in Abbeville Louisiana socializing with fellow guests who return to Betty’s time and time again. Many have become our friends and we always enjoy meeting new friends at the park as well. We have had some fantastic Cajun food and listened to some of the unique music found in the Acadian region of Louisiana. There is always something fun to see or do.
Along with our fun here at Betty’s we also found time to perform a good deed. Most mornings while staying at Betty’s RV Park in Abbeville, Louisiana we go for morning walks of about three miles. Others staying here walk a similar trail around the RV Park and through the surrounding neighborhoods.
One particular stretch or road along Orange Drive is more secluded and wooded but unfortunately has been historically used a spot to toss the occasional coke or beer can, fast food refuse or even to dump some unwanted items such as old printers, skill saws or tires. Basically it became a spot for unauthorized dumping of trash and litter.
The residents of Betty’s RV Park decided to do a community clean-up project in an effort to give back to the community we all so enjoy. So one morning we all gathered with many of us donning our Betty’s RV Park T-shirts. Armed with garbage bags and gloves we proceeded to do our normal walk around the neighborhood to pick up litter and trash along the way. Walking with us and snapping pictures was a reporter from the Abbeville Memorial Newspaper.
There really wasn't much trash along most of the route so we made good time until we hit the corner of Orange Drive. Things slowed way down then as this one or two tenths of a mile section of the roadside had lots and lots of garbage. However with nearly 20 people picking up trash it really didn’t take us too long to have the roadside nearly free of all litter. Thirty to forty sacks of garbage later we were all done. Our walking path is now clear of garbage and will make for a more enjoyable place to walk.
Of course since we all like to have fun at Betty’s RV Park, after finishing we all headed back to the RV park where Jim (of Jim and Cookie) and Jim (of Jim and Debbie) made us all some excellent post-trash-collecting Bloody Mary’s. What a perfect ending to a perfect morning and yet another perfect day on the Road of Retirement…
Fabulous job dear friends. What a way to show your love for this country.
