Spending Time With the Grandkids in Canyon Lake Texas…

image

Well that sure was a quick ten days spent visiting with family at our annual stopover near Canyon Lake, Texas. We always enjoy staying in this part of the state in the spring to check out all the wildflowers and to see our son and his family including our two grandchildren, now aged 8 and 14. Good thing we had another air mattress for them to sleep on since our good one got a major leak in one of the seams.

Of course the children had school on the weekdays and JJ’s wife Kelly had work but we maximized our time with them when they were here visiting the two weekends. We played, we chatted, we ate well and most of all we had fun. Of course we also had to have lots of campfires in order to have s’mores.

One thing Cameron and Adrianne, our grandkids, like most about this park is the fairly domesticated deer who also call this park home. The deer on this private park are fed a daily dose of corn because the office sells guests generous sized one dollar bags of corn to feed the deer right from your campsite. Although skittish, they cautiously come close and on occasion close enough that one can actually hand feed them corn. It is quite a thrill for the kiddos and also for the adults!

During the week our son stayed a few days with us since he took most of the week off from work. It was so fun spending some one-on-one time with him since we seldom have that opportunity. We made several loop drives in the scenic Texas hill country spotting lots of deer and wild turkey among the plentitude of beautiful Texas wildflowers. It is great that he has the same appreciation for nature that we do so this week has really been special.

I would be remiss in not mentioning a brewery we found in San Marcos Texas. Aqua-Brew Restaurant and Brewery is a relatively new brewery to the Texas scene and has moved into our favorite brewery in Texas replacing our long time favorite Real Ale Brewery in Blanco. A must stop if you love craft beer and I liked every style of beer they brewed!

Our son and family are also in the process of purchasing a home so it was nice we were here to offer advice and support.  The home is in an awesome neighborhood and the family is so excited about the move. The final Sunday rolled around and mid afternoon the family needed to get back to their routine so we said our goodbyes, sent them home with a batch of red beans for dinner and readied the RV for our move tomorrow.

We will be moving on over to Lockhart State Park for our annual BBQ fix and then on to our old home town in College Station Texas. Our grandkids will come visit us one more time there so we are happy for that and we sure are looking forward to some great Texas BBQ in Lockhart…

NOTE: We are moving over to Lockhart State Park in Lockhart Texas today.
