From Marathon TX to the valley

Our next stop was 115 mi west to the town of Marathon, Texas. Our destination was Marathon Motel and RV Park. We were only there 2 days and the first day we spent mostly taking care of laundry as yes, even full-timers have chores.

After laundry we did discover a new park near town called the Gage Gardens which is less than a mile away. Here there are 27 acres which basically have created an oasis in the desert. Lots of birds have discovered this on their migration route and as a result we had a great time doing a little birding and walking all the trails within  the park.

The next day we headed over to the Davis Mountains State Park. Ut was great being back in the mountains after driving through the west Texas high desert. We did a little hiking and saw a lot of really nice birds. The State Park has a couple of bird blinds which were excellent for taking  photographs of the elusive little guys.

After enjoying our brief stay in Marathon we headed further west for 133 mi over to Seminole Canyon State Park. We have stayed there several times before and  because of that the only excursion we took was over to the Devil's River.

Even though the Devil's River is not accessible to hikers, it is available for water sports such as canoeing in kayaking. Nevertheless we stopped to enjoy the sights and sounds of the birds flitting in the trees. Truly this would be a great place to kayak.

We' ve been moving a little faster than normal as we are trying  to dodge a few severe thunderstorms. Therefore the next morning we headed over for a one-day stay in Eagle Pass Texas another 134 mi Southeast.

We stayed at the Lucky Eagle Casino RV Park. After we checked in we walked over to the casino. Since it was our first visit we received $20 each in free play. After a few hours playing video poker  we were able to leave with the majority of the Free Play money given to us! Thank you, Lucky Eagle Casino!

Next stop will be Laredo Texas for a more extended stay as the weather seems to have settled a little.
