Well, we embarked on another travel day. This time we would be heading to Laredo, Texas about 130 miles away from where we'll reach our southernmost point in Texas before heading east.
No sooner had we arrived at Casa Blanca State Park in Laredo, when realized we would need to make a quick trip over to Sam's Club to purchase new house batteries. Ours were failing miserably to the point we didn't even have enough power to put our levelers down. The new batteries worked like a charm!
Casablanca State Park is an international park as people from Mexico come across the border to visit it as well. There are lots of trails in the park along with a few historic buildings of interest. There sure wasn't a drought here as the lake was full of water (and people) on the weekend.
Hiking in the State Park with temperatures in the '90s sure makes one thirsty so we checked out a few of the breweries in town in search of our favorite beers. Saludos Brewing Company was by far away the best one we tried during our stay.
While here a friend of ours mentioned she was going with some people to birdwatch at a nearby golf course along the river. Since it would be at 7:00 in the morning, Sharon had no desire to go but I went and had a great time. I saw lots of really interesting birds found only in the Rio Grande Valley.
Another fun excursion we had was to North Central Park which is not only a nice park with lots of trails but also has a good little disc golf course we played. It had been a while since we have played disc golf so the next day we both were a little bit sore from throwing discs, but happily now that we're out east we'll be able to play more often.
Alas our stay in Laredo came to an end. Our next destination will be east to the beach...
