We temporarily interrupt this blog about the Florida Keys and RV’ing to bring to you the exciting news of “WE SOLD OUR HOUSE”!
Yes, it is true, after over a year on the market and two price reductions we finally sold our house. This vacant house has been costing us between $400 to $500 per month… Do you know how much fun we could be having with an extra 400-500 bucks!!! Of course you do!
We mention this for all of you who worry about selling your home to let each of you know it will eventually sell. We set our initial price high on the house since we listed it 8 months before we planned to retire, but in our budget we had a lower number for what we expected to sell it for. We fell just short of what I expected to get for it.
Our biggest worry in selling our home was that our market and local economy is driven by the 45,000 student Texas A&M University. So if we hadn’t sold our home by the end of July we were going to have to rent it out to students most likely. Not good!!! They tend to trash your place… We are glad to have sold it and now we don’t have to worry about it or the expenses associated with keeping it on the market.
This was our third contract on the house and after the other two backed out before closing we kept this one to ourselves as to not jinx it… must have worked :). There is hope for all you people out there trying to sell your homes to hit the road. You can do like we did and just go and hope it sells soon, it worked for us… or for some you will have to stay till it sells. We have no regrets but were getting a bit worried…
I now return you back to the regularly scheduled blog about RV’ing in the Florida Keys… at least the pictures are from the Keys!
YAY!!! Congratulations! I am so happy for you - what a weight off that must be. :)

ReplyDeleteWoo-Hoo...that's good news for sure.

I've been wondering about the contract that you got just as you were leaving. So glad that you did get it sold and off your mind! We have done it both ways. When Craig got a job in Texas I stayed with our Wisconsin house for seven long months. When he got a job in California, we emptied the house and the kids and I moved to California with him. It sold in eight months. Neither was pleasant! I guess that is why I have given up on full timing. We still want to sell this house, but I am resigned to it taking a long long time. First it has to get fixed up.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! We are so happy for you. What a huge relief this must be. Now you can really kick back in Key West.
ReplyDeleteThat's great! I know when mine sold it was such a relief and that was in good economic times. It reminded me of the joke about the boat - my two happiest days were when I bought it and when I sold it.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, I can hear your sigh of relief from here!
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the congratulations and yes this was a huge relief...
ReplyDeleteSoooooo happy for you both. We know how you feel about people backing out. It happened to us, and we kept the next one a secret until we actually closed. We didn't even let the realtor put a pending or sold sign up! Enjoy the extra money...LOL
ReplyDeleteSo terrific!!! Happy for you both.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!!!!
ReplyDeleteNow livin' the good life begins. Safe travels and stay well.
Happy days!!! So glad you have a sale. Ours has been on the market a little over 3 months, 2 cash contracts so far that were bottom feeders and we could not meet on a price. Maybe the third time will be a charm for us as it was for you.
ReplyDeleteIt must feel great to know that financial freedom is at your finger tips. :)
Safe travels...
Connie
Congratulations, it is always nice to get that worry over with! Now you can celebrate while you are in the Keys. :)
ReplyDeleteCheers... We are very happy for you! Now you can enjoy the keys just a little bit more.
ReplyDeleteWhoo Hoooo!!! Congratulations!! That's fabulous news!

So happy to read that the house sold! Sure will make life even more happy than it already is. We, too, took a chance and went full-time while the house was up for sale - 3 months later the house closed. You sure are enjoying a wonderful life in Key West - loved the photo of the fishing pole, bare feet, and wine! Cool!
ReplyDeleteGlad I found your blog! After "dumping" almost everything, we recently put our house in McKinney, TX on the market. Now we're trying to get our 13 year old "new" MH ready to move into. We hope to be following you on the road early next year.
