Fulltimers vs Weekenders

One thing that we noticed over the past four and a half months of fullltiming is that we as fulltimers are quite different when compared to those who are weekenders. There are more differences between fulltimers and weekenders than we originally thought. Now granted we have a lot of similarities as well, such as we all own RV’s, like to travel, like adventure etc. However, the differences have become more apparent to us now that we have spent some time on the road.

So what are these differences? Well to us some of these differences we have observed are listed below:

  • we mostly eat inside and weekender’s mostly eat outside
  • we build a small fire outside every now and then weekender’s build a large fire most every nightKey West 012
  • weekender’s really like tiki torches and we do not
  • weekender’s make a lot more noise than do fulltimers *might be a correlation with kids here)
  • weekender’s have more camping stuff than fulltimers seem to
  • weekender’s buy a ton of bagged ice we do not
  • and lastly the most important difference between fulltimers and weekenders is that the weekender’s complain that the weekends go by way too fast and the fulltimers complain the weekends just don’t go by fast enough…

Funny we never thought that in our entire lives that we would not look forward to weekends…

  1. Ha! Totally true about the weekends. When we were workcamping at the KOA last year, we would say that we wanted to go boondock at the Walmart for the weekend to get some peace and quiet!

  2. Yep, definitely a lot of differences. We don't hang out any outdoor lights on the awning, we eat in restaurants or inside, we take our time and enjoy small things, no campfires, and we don't have to pack up on Sunday and go home.

  3. I sure do enjoy getting back into the weekender mode when I have visitors, though. :)

  4. That pretty well sums up the difference, now we love Monday mornings, peace and quiet! And we don't need to go home, we are already there. And travel midweek usually, in off peak hours.

  5. As "any timers" who are definitely not "weekenders," I have to agree with your comparison. We left Meziadin Lake on Canada Day due to the weekenders who came up en masse from Terrace. We left Jasper due to the weekenders who came up from Jasper. Now that we're in Dawson City, it's nice to know there are no weekenders up here. Ther's just no place for them to have come from!

  6. I Should have said "came up from Edmonton," not Jasper.

  7. I've already noticed those differences, too. I look for campsites in the "long term" areas now. Fewer kids, people go to bed earlier, and aren't traipsing through my campsite all the time. I hope I made the right choice here in Vacaville! :)

  8. So true! And what about those holidays? It seems like we just get past one and another one pops up. We agree with all your statements except we never build a fire. I'd like them to be banned.

  9. Great list and right on the money. We were just talking about this today when watching the campers around us.

We almost hate to see Friday nights come and can't wait for Sunday afternoons since they all seem to pack up and leave then. The worst though are holidays when you actually might have to make reservations in order to have a site.
We try to do a walk in somewhere and get there by Wednesday and just stay through

John and I chuckled over this one.

We live in a popular holiday area, Coromandel Peninsula, NZ, and love the peace and quiet of the winter but even so some weekends we grumble about noisy parties. I thought it would be wonderful to live here but I'm ready to head for the hills. Our city son's neighbourhood is often more peaceful but then he's not surrounded by all the natural beauty we have here.

    Love your photos.

    Blessings

  11. Wow how could I have forgotten the dreaded holidays that we use to look so forward too... we have had to already scramble once to find a spot for memorial day and now I too dread the holidays and try to make sure we have a reserved spot for them...

  12. Hehe...so funny and I totally agree. We also find that weekenders tend to do ALOT more driving and many do not have toads. We were next to a family last week-end that were doing a 200-mile day trip WITH the RV to go see some sights....200 milles...aiiiii...for us that would be a whole week drive :)

  13. Have to agree with most of those observations. We definitely like the weekdays better - much quieter. I am a fire kind of girl but mostly have them during the week when I can have my fire and the quiet too.

  14. Ooooh we can't wait to graduate from weekender to fulltimer!
